One Step Up Challenge 2: Flour

If you are new, you can read the idea behind the One Step Up Challenge here. If you missed the first challenge, you can read about it here.

Challenge 2: Flour

Level 1: Incorporate 1/4 cup of whole wheat flour in place of 1/4 cup of white flour.

Level 2: Incorporate 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour in place of 1/2 cup of white flour.

Level 3: If you already use 50% or more whole wheat flour in your recipes, switch to organic whole wheat flour.

Any level challenge: This can be incorporated into any level you choose, and it will cost you little to nothing to accomplish this. Soak your grains! Or in this case, whole wheat. You can read about that here. This makes the whole wheat easily digestible, and increases nutrition. *I encourage you to do this even if you only use 25% whole wheat flour in your recipes. It will still benefit you!

Notes: Switching from white to whole wheat flour will be a very minimal cost change for you ( $.20 per pound difference in my area). If you have never used whole wheat flour before, it may help you to know that the texture of your baked goods will be a little different than what you are used to. Some call it grainy. I enjoy the added texture, and flavor.

  1. You can also grind up oatmeal and use it for at least half of your flour. It tastes great, has less gluten, and is inexpensive.
